Paris - life of a sculptor II - sculpting from life in st germain des pres

I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to sculpt in a sculpting class at St Germain Des Arts studio with the French sculptor and instructor Edith Lafay. (Image below of her work, visit her site to see more:

)

The studio is located in the heart of St Germain, we were able to walk there within 15 minutes. This is very rare in Paris, as the majority of the art studios are close to the outskirts due in part to the expense and lack of available space close to the centre.

We worked on 3 quick poses from a male model, 2 seated and one reclining.

I used a beautiful black clay which felt like chocolate mud, I had to stop myself from attempting to taste it!

It was very interesting to experience the environment of a sculpture class here in the heart of Paris, a setting steeped in art history and with such a strong lineage of figurative sculpture.

Perhaps I will return to Canada with a suitcase full of clay!
